3 Things you should do before closing a client!
The writing Chronicles
So you’ve learned a skill that’s cool.
Now you want to actually learn how to close a client.
Maybe you’ve even done some free work.
That’s awesome.
And If not.
Don’t worry.
You now believe it’s time to make some money.
But I get asked this a lot:
“How much should I charge for my services”
And I believe it comes down to 3 things:
OFFER
EXPERIENCE
CONFIDENTS IN DELIVERY
In this Newsletter I’ll break down these 3 in detail.
If you have all 3 figured out, great! you can charge.
If not, Don’t worry, use this as a checklist.
OFFER
This is by far the most important one.
What the hell are you offering to people?
Copywriting? Web building? Coding? Management?
The first thing I would do, is to read you market.
What are people normally paying for such services?
Make comparison with friends, make a google search.
Or even AI with tell you the competing markets these days.
That needs to be sorted first because:
A) You don’t wanna under charge
B) You don’t wanna over charge and under deliver
Next thing is to determine your “Ideal Customer Profile”
(ICP)
These are the people you want to directly reach out to.
You don’t wanna offer Video services to someone who only does writing?
(Happens all the time with me).
For Example:
If you’re a ghostwriter, Your ICP would be business owners
or start ups looking to outsource their time.
This would typically be brand builders or tech influencers.
A formula to remember would be:
Skill + Sub Niche + Target audience.
“I help Business owners Attain more customers through my writing”
Simple!
EXPERIENCE
This is something most people rush into.
And this is their biggest mistake.
They write 2 emails and work with a ghostwriting client.
And boom they feel like they are ready to earn 10k/month.
This is very much incorrect.
You must practice your skill so you have the foundations nailed.
Basic understanding of X, the way to grow a page (etc)
Now you can practice your skill by making concept work.
Concept work is work that isn’t necessarily for anyone.
But it good practise to develop yourself.
You could build 3 fake websites not used by a client.
But if proof of what you are capable of and is a testimonial of your skill.
If you’re a copywriter, Write 3 “Fake” emails that demonstrate your skill.
Learning should never stop, even after you’re making money with clients.
CONFIDENTS IN DELIVERY
This one is pretty self explanatory.
If you don’t feel confident in your skills.
You shouldn’t even be charging for money.
And if you’re doing FREE work.
You should make it clear to them.
Without confidents, you are risking more than embarrassment and losing a client.
But if you fail to deliver because of your lack of confidents.
You are putting your reputation on the line.
This Step HAS to be nailed down to a tea.
No funny business here.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
Okay so now you have all 3 down and you understand it well.
“WTF do I do” you may ask?
You’re gonna post testimonials fkn daily of work you have done.
(Or at least often at the start)
And when you get people asking questions.
You can throw testimonials to them in private DMS
Because the truth is-
People only buy from people they trust.
And when you’ve done all 3.
People are more likely to wanna pay you da BAG!
Stay hard everyone!
See you Tomorrow!
