Stepping back without stepping away

In partnership with

For a long time.

I believed that being available was the same thing as being reliable.

If someone reached out.

There was an obligation to respond immediately.

I told myself this was just part of being involved, connected, and committed.

Over time.

That mindset started to wear me down.

I was always reachable.

But rarely fully present.

Even during moments that were supposed to relax.

My mind stayed alert.

There was a constant low level tension.

Eventually.

I noticed something was off.

I felt exhausted in a way that Sundays did not fix.

(My day of rest as a Christian).

My energy was inconsistent.

Even when my workload was not overwhelming.

Felt like my thoughts were being interrupted before they could finish.

I realized I was always available for everyone else, but rarely for myself.

So last week, I made a decision that felt uncomfortable at first.

I took a real break.

Not a pretend break where I still checked everything in the background.

An actual pause from being constantly reachable.

For over a week, I stepped back from the expectation of instant replies.

I stopped reacting to every message as if it needed immediate action.

I gave myself permission to not be on call.

What surprised me was how fast the change happened.

Within a few days, my mind felt quieter.

My thoughts started to feel more organized instead of scattered.

I noticed my focus was more stable throughout the day.

Simple things felt easier again.

I could focus for longer periods without feeling drained.

I felt more like myself than I had in a while.

That break made something very clear to me.

Always being available was slowly eating me away.

Not in a dramatic way, but in a steady, accumulative one.

The kind that you only notice once you step away from it.

I realized that availability is not the same as value.

Being reachable at all times does not automatically make your work better.

In many cases, I found it does the opposite.

Going forward, I am making a change in how I operate.

I am being far more intentional with my time and energy.

I am going to be strict about who and what I say yes to.

Not out of ego or detachment, but out of self respect.

I want to protect the clarity that comes from not being constantly interrupted.

That does not mean disappearing or becoming distant.

It means showing up in healthier ways.

It means being present when I do engage, instead of half available all the time.

I will still be around.

You will still hear from me.

Just without the pressure of constant availability behind it.

If you have been feeling drained by always being online.

This is your reminder that stepping back is allowed.

If you know me from my content.

You’ll know that my mental health isn’t important to me.

Because I do what I gotta do regardless.

this pivot was one of them.

And now I feel like I can conquer the world.

It is how you stay consistent over the long term.

Here’s how I use Attio to run my day.

Ready to scale faster?

I’m not saying any of this for anyone to feel pity for me.

Moving forward.

I am doing this so that I can work better.

Become more efficient.

Even MORE reliable to those who matter.

(in business and family).

I took a break so I can preform and do what I am good at.

Make people wallets fuller and breed clarity and peoples minds.

That is my ultimate goal as a writer on here.

More than ever now.

I understand the value and taking care of yourself.
