Why Random DMs Don’t Work
Most people do not know how to do outreach.
At all.
And because they randomly get one or two people to say yes out of pure luck.
They convince themselves they’re doing it right.
Then they start teaching it.
Which is how the standard of DMs on X dropped so fast.
So forget most of what you’ve heard about outreach.
And just read this.
Because this is how you actually sell through outreach on X.
Scale Your IRL Campaigns Like Digital Ads
Out Of Home advertising has long been effective but hard to scale—until now. AdQuick makes it simple to plan, deploy, and measure campaigns with the same efficiency and insight you expect from online marketing tools.
Marketers agree: OOH is powerful for brand growth, driving new customers, and reinforcing messaging. AdQuick makes it easy, intuitive, and data-driven—so you can treat real-world campaigns like any other digital channel.
First things first.
What is outreach?
Outreach is you reaching out to someone with the intention of generating revenue.
That’s it.
Not “just helping.”
You are reaching out because you want to get paid.
Helping and problem solving are the tools.
Revenue is the outcome.
If that makes you uncomfortable.
This email might not be for you.
The biggest problem with outreach right now.
People don’t think.
They just send.
I’ve received more random, irrelevant DMs in the past few months than ever before.
People I’ve never interacted with.
Selling me things I clearly do not need.
Someone pitching me ghostwriting
I am a ghostwriter…
People pitching me newsletters.
And you’re reading this from my own newsletter.
That tells me one thing.
You did no research.
Zero effort.
No awareness at all.
And that’s not just frustrating for the person receiving it.
It destroys the sender’s credibility.
Because once someone associates your name with spam.
You’re done forever.
They won’t open your message again.
Close more deals, fast.
When your deal pipeline actually works, nothing slips through the cracks. HubSpot Smart CRM uses AI to track every stage automatically, so you can focus on what matters. Start free today.
So why does this happen?
Two reasons:
Desperation.
And not understanding sales.
Desperation is the fastest way to hurt your results.
If you’re desperate for money.
You start sending DMs to anyone who will listen.
Hoping someone says yes.
And sure.
You might land a client once in a while.
But your conversion rate will be destroyed.
And people can sense desperation quickly.
The second reason.
Most people do not understand what sales actually is.
Sales is not pitching.
Sales is problem solving.
And you cannot solve a problem you haven’t identified.
Which means research.
If you pitch someone a solution to a problem they don’t have.
You’re wasting everyone’s time.
And damaging your own reputation.
So what should you be doing instead?
Simple.
Stop pitching everyone.
Pick one audience.
Just one.
Find out what problems they actually have.
Then build your offer around that.
Not the other way around.
Most people learn a skill.
Then try to push it on everyone.
That’s backwards.
You learn a skill.
Then apply it to a specific group of people.
With a specific problem.
That is sales.
Stop Stitching Your Business Together
Starter apps create friction. Overbuilt platforms slow you down. Kajabi brings your business together, from offers to marketing to delivery, so growth feels clear and focused, not overwhelming.
So here’s the process:
Read their posts.
Check their bio.
Look at their offer.
Look at their website (if they have one).
Find gaps.
Missing pieces.
Opportunities they might be overlooking.
Use that information in the DM.
Not a pitch.
An observation.
Don’t pitch like everything depends on it.
Have a conversation.
Ask questions.
See if they actually need your help.
If they don’t.
Move on.
Don’t waste their time if they don’t need you.
People will pitch out of desperation for money.
(My first point).
But If they do.
Then you sell the solution.
No scripts.
No copy and paste messages.
No desperation.
Just raw effort.
The kind of effort most people avoid.
And that’s exactly why most people never see consistent results.
If you send just 20 Dm’s a day with to the right people.
I am 100% certain you can close 1 client a day if you truly tried.
So what are you waiting for?
Get to work.
Talk soon.
